(More customer reviews)I was disappointed to only see one review for the Optimax here, because we've used ours for over 20 years. Not only has that been for every single glass of drinking water we've drunk (we bought it originally because our tap water was horrible), but also for our dogs, which over the years has numbered (let's see... lemme count 'em...) Eleven! All of whom lived longer than ten years each!
A lot of the convenience is due to our placing it alongside the sink, which has a hose attachment. We fill it two or three times a day, and change the filter once a month. The trick to keeping it clean is to add a half-cup of bleach to the last batch before changing filters. Empty it entirely and wash it out with cold water and dish detergent, pop in the filter and you're set for another month.
The only reason we were looking for another one is as a backup, in case something should happen to ours. As it is, it has no cracks, leaks or any other defect. How's that for an endorsement?

No-Splash Cap Snap-On Review

(More customer reviews)I was sceptical about this gizmo at first - looks like just another gimick. It actually works really well, though. I had the hardest time putting 5 gallon water bottles on our cooler without spilling all over the place. I have no spillage with this cap in place. You do have to wait a moment or two for the ball to float up and clear the spout once it's in place, but I don't consider that a problem, just something to be aware of.

This clever design holds back water as you turn over your 3 or 5 gallon water bottle onto your cooler or other water dispenser. Insert the tube inside your bottle and snap it on. As you turn the bottle the ball inside the tube is forced down blocking the water flow. (More customer reviews)It works well, discharging some water when you invert the 5 gallon water bottle over the cooler. The ball cock is plastic and wants to float too soon after inversion. If it was stainless steel the cooler's built in extender would lift the ball after inversion not allowing for any water discharge except into the cooler. There is a small amount of spillage compared to inverting without the Easy Load. Do not invert unless you are over the cooler because the ballcock will rise and allow water to discharge from the bottle. A 5 gallon bottle filled is close to 40 pounds. Not an easy task for most people to handle.

After filling the water bottle i attached the spout (very securely, as the directions indicated) and turned it over so it would create a "seal." I have tried many times and this piece of garbage will not stop leaking profusely, probably 3-4 drips a second. It's absolutely worthless if you want to use it inside.

I don't care how hi-tech the plastic is and how "chemical proof" the container is mother nature glass is still the only way to go. However. the shipping is expensive albeit understandable. The cap is cheesy. Need to find a better alternative for a better cap. Glass is imported from Italy and it is very beautifully made. Still can't get over the cheap cap. For the price. You can find a better cap.

The molded handle is a welcome addition because the container gets heavy when full (about 24 pounds). The container fits fine in our refrigerator/ freezer - a GE side by side model. So far the valve / spigot has worked ok. Its a very basic plastic valve that hopefully will hold up over time. I have my doubts. Shipping and handling fee is high on this item - - over $8.
