(More customer reviews)I have a Kenmore refrigerator form Sears that I bought about a year and a half ago. Kenmore is actually made by Whirlpool and although the filter this replaced was labeled Kenmore, this is the exact same filter but labeled Whirlpool instead. I looked it up on the Sears site and they wanted $50 for the same filter. The price is a steal and even though it says 6 months I used it for over a year since I have soft water in my house and only one person. My fridge has a 6 month built in timer that goes from green to orange to red when the 6 months is up. I thought it might be based on actual usage, but it's not, because it went red at exactly 6 months and I use far less water than most other households. I have no idea why more time would harm a filter, as far as I'm concerned it's just a marketing tactic to get you to buy them more often then needed, like oil changes every 3,000 miles.

(More customer reviews)You gotta hand it to Maytag - they made replacing the water filter very simple. Took all of about 30 seconds from start to finish. And about 20 seconds of that was wiping up the water that dripped out of the old filter when I pulled it out, so the next change should go even better ;-)
We have a family of six and we drink water almost exclusively, so I went ahead and changed the filter at six months just like the owner's guide recommended. However, I could see no evidence that the filter was near its end of life and am convinced that I can get more use out of the filters than the suggested six months. I will try to keep an eye on things, but without a little window I really have no way other than flow to know what is going on.
And that is why I gave this a rating of four stars. The filter seems to work wonderfully and replacement is a breeze, but I would be happier if I could look at the state of the filter while it is in use.

The water tasted horrible (extremely chemically) from the very first glass (after the 3 minutes flush that was recommended). I used the first filter for about 1 month and the horrible taste was just as strong as the first glass. I am throwing this one (along with the other 2 that came in the pack) away. I went to Best buy and bought a factory Frigidaire filter and the water is back to tasting amazing, crisp and clean. If you shop around online you can find factory filters for less. But remember, you get what you pay for. This has been a $23 lesson to never buy cheap water filters.

However, the water that travels through this filter does not have a good taste. It still tastes like the unfiltered water. I have only owned my fridge for about 6 months, so I have not tried any other brands besides the OEM, which seemed to be a little better. I will try a different brand in about 3-4 months and see how it compares. It is a good value. I just do not hve any experience with other filters to compare it, too.

(More customer reviews)I purchased these to replace the OEM filters that I have been spending $45 a piece on at Lowes. Everything I read about these filters indicated longer life and obviously a MUCH better value from a cost perspective. They were well packaged and fit perfectly. The only thing is a slightly 'off' plastic taste. As I do with OEM filters I flushed several gallons through the filter before using any of the water. Still, there was this persistent bitter plastic taste. After running several more gallons through it the taste began to diminish and has become less noticeable over time. I have used dozens of filter / softener technologies over the last 20 years and this is the first time I have had this taste perception issue. I willl have to see what the next filter is like in several months to determine if I will purchase again.+++++ 7/14 update: The first of the three filters is about due for a replacement. This really isn't any longer than the OEM Samsung filter. However, we did have an extra person in our household for many months of it's life so it may have given an extra 10-20%. Other than that there is nothing else to report, the water was fine after cycling an extra couple of gallons out of it at start-up with no other taste perception issues.

Brita Refrigerator Replacement Filters for GE Review

(More customer reviews)I decided to replace the original filter on my GE refrigerator after about 10 months when the "change filter" light came on. I went to the local hardware store and found a replacement for $49 plus tax. It seemed expensive, so I decided to check Amazon instead and found these along with the OEM GE filters.
I was reluctant to try a filter other than the GE just to save a few bucks, but if they are identical, why waste money? Besides, Brita is probably better known than GE for filters. Anyway, the filter looks, fits and works just like the original. I have noticed no difference in water flow or noise. The water tastes clean and looks clear.
One note - as per the instructions you should pre-fill the filter at the tap before installation and then run about 10 glasses of water through the new filter before use to stabilize the flow.
As for the vendor - Fridge Filters, I found that you cannot track their packages online as you can with most things purchased from Amazon, but the filter arrived in Florida 4 days after my order was placed. I gave the product and the vendor 5 stars, not that I get particularly excited about a water filter, but there were no negatives to take a star away.

I replaced my older filter when this arrived from Amazon and it works, but the current version is an improvement over this one. The problem with this filter is the price they are demanding for a discontinued product. I paid way too much for this filter as it is inferior to the current item that is available on the market. Unfortunately, the vendor doesn't make it clear exactly which filter one is purchasing, since the current product's item number appears in parentheses here on Amazon (and, as I recall, on the vendor's website). I recommend finding the current filter and paying the few extra dollars as it is superior to this one.
