(More customer reviews)Although KitchenAid designers made the original to match the venting in the bottom grille, seems like someone should have figured out the impact/lack of strength when actually doing what it was supposed to do - turn that long and heavier filter out and in every 6 months in a pretty confined space which could only be done flat on the floor. Guess those engineers don't have to do that themselves?! Got the frig when we bought the house, prior owner had mangled (definite evidence of plier usage)the original pretty well and wife just wanted the filter replaced NOW! Fairly handy, but it was a real job actually getting it off/out and sweating every minute that it was going to come apart. Even though city is decent sized with many home improvement, hardware, appliance, etc., stores, could NOT get a replacement; so I had to repeat the serious sweat in reverse to install a new filter - and again to replace the knob (after actually locating it) and filter. Much sturdier design for the purpose and I'm much happier to contemplate the chore in another (and every) 6 months; saved the 'original equipment' if someone other than me takes over this chore and desires the vented look - which you can't see by the way unless you happen to make it a practice to crawl on the floor. DEFINITELY buy one of these if you have the same problem!!! OH YEAH, you can also get a much better price on the filters too!!!
